DITTGEN: "WE NEED TO BE BOLDER"

After the 2-1 defeat at promoted outfit Eintracht Braunschweig, when the Boys in Brown threw away an early advantage, players and officials alike identified St. Pauli's own passivity as the main reason for the outcome. The post-match reaction.
Maximilian Dittgen: "It's obviously a bad feeling when you lose like that. We took an early lead away from home and ideally should have added a second. We create chances when we play boldly going forward, but unfortunately we didn't do that for much of the game today. We had three big chances in the last five minutes, but all in all we need to be bolder. We didn't do enough to win the game in the end."
Philipp Ziereis: "We started well with the goal right at the start and gave nothing away in the first half. In the second, we let Braunschweig impose their game on us and we lost our way. We no longer had possession, we couldn't hold the ball up any more and we stopped creating chances. At some point, games like that have to turn. From what felt like two attempts on goal we conceded twice. It's impossible to explain at the moment, but we have to take the blame today because we didn't see our game plan through. We made them strong, which was completely unnecessary because we had everything under control really.
Head coach Timo Schultz: "It wasn't a good second division game today. Having made a perfect start, we were well set against a team who had to have been a bit unsettled. Unlike us, however, Braunschweig dug deep and fought their way back into the game. Their no-thrills second division football saw them to victory and you can only congratulate them for that. When all's said and done, we didn't find the means to put the game to bed, so we can't have any complaints about the defeat. It's very disappointing for us."
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "We'd been hoping to take the lead like that in our previous games. In trying to control the game, there's always a risk of you becoming too passive, however, and unfortunately that was the case today. We became more and more passive and allowed ourselves to be forced into a game that doesn't really suit us. As a result, what happens all too often in football inevitably happened again in that our opponents scored twice with two attempts on goal. We were more active again in the closing stages and had three chances in five minutes. I think the key today was that we were too passive for long periods. You can only control the game if you remain active and look for opportunities to break rather than simply switching from left to right".
Eintracht Braunschweig coach Daniel Meyer: "I agree that it wasn't a good second division game. It was quite a dramatic start for us. It's hard to find the words when you keep conceding from the first attack. That takes some getting over. I have to take my hat off to the team for the way they worked themselves back into the game. We put a lot of effort in and made plenty of tackles. The equaliser gave us a lift and we scored the second from one of the few clear-cut situations we had. At the end, we defended our lead with so much passion."
