CLUB STATEMENT ON THE INCIDENTS IN THE SOUTH STAND AT THE DERBY

The local derby against HSV left its mark on club officials not only because of the defeat on the pitch but also because of the incidents off it during the 90 minutes. In the aftermath of the game, the managing board, supervisory board and the club management all criticised what happened in the South Stand.

"In the past, club officials have engaged in a very open dialogue with the relevant sections of the fan base and given them a lot of trust up front. What happened during the game went too far. We cannot condone or tolerate it.

The occurrences during the game, which almost led to it being abandoned, gave club officials the impression that putting themselves centre stage was more important for some sections of the fan base than the club and the game being played by the first team.”

The incidents represent a turning point at FC St. Pauli. The displaying of opposition fan materials, for example, does not reflect in any way, shape or form the way we have done things at our ground in the past. The quantity of pyrotechnics lit and the firing of illuminating shells onto the pitch far exceeded what can be considered acceptable. As a result of these incidents, the form and substance of our future dealings with each other and the consequences will now be subjected to a critical evaluation.

The club is offering a procedure for the settlement of claims to anyone who was demonstrably impacted by the incidents inside the ground (e.g. soiled clothes) or left the game early due to anxiety. Those affected are kindly requested to contact the club by sending an email to report@fcstpauli.com.
