Gellhaus new assistant coach

Markus Gellhaus has been appointed new assistant coach and will work alongside head coach Olaf Janssen in future. The 46-year-old has agreed a deal that ties him to the club until 30 June 2019.

"I'm delighted the club has met my request to sign Markus Gellhaus as my assistant," said Janssen. "Markus has more than 16 years of experience at the highest level. He has always stood for loyalty, enormous diligence and high commitment to the cause. In our talks he also showed a great desire to have the opportunity to be involved at St. Pauli."

Gellhaus is very excited by the prospect of working for the club. "From the outset it was a very attractive proposition for me. Olaf and I sat down and talked and very quickly realised that we were on the same wavelength. St. Pauli has always been a special club with incredible pulling power and so I'm really looking forward to the task."

Gellhaus, who until recently served as assistant coach at Hannover 96 (2016 to 2017), has previously held comparable roles at Hertha BSC (2012 to 2015), FC Augsburg (2009 to 2012) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (2007 to 2008), gaining promotion to the Bundesliga with all three clubs. He began his coaching career at SC Paderborn (2001 to 2006), where he oversaw the first team a number of times in the role of head or caretaker coach (2001 in the then third-tier Regionalliga and 2006 and 2015 in Bundesliga 2).
