KAUCZINSKI NAMED HEAD COACH

FC St. Pauli have a new head coach. Markus Kauczinski replaces Olaf Janßen, who was dismissed on Wednesday, and will take his first training session on Thursday morning. Kauczinski, 47, previously coached FC Ingolstadt in the Bundesliga and before that Karlsruher Sport Club. The Gelsenkirchen-born coach has put pen to paper on a contract binding him to the club until 30 June 2019.

"In Markus Kauczinski we've appointed an absolute professional and someone who knows the second division very well," said director of sport Uwe Stöver. "In his time at Karlsruhe he showed that he knows his way round difficult situations. We're convinced we can turn things round with him."

"When the enquiry came, I didn't need long to think," said Kauczinski. "St. Pauli are a club with great prospects and outstanding fans. Despite the difficult situation I'm convinced there's enough potential in the team for me to work successfully with them."

New assistant coach is Patrick Westermann. The 36-year-old has already worked alongside Kauczinski at Karlsruhe and Ingolstadt.
