KAUCZINSKI: "KEEP WINNING AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS"

Markus Kauczinski faced the Hamburg media in buoyant mood after the 3-1 win at VfL Bochum on Monday night. The 48-year-old was particularly pleased with the way his side operated as a unit.

"Bochum are very good at home so to beat them in that manner after three draws in a row was really impressive, especially the way they fought together as a team given the changes to the starting lineup," the St. Pauli boss said. "The lads who stepped in were on their game right away. That's what pleased me the most."

This team spirit was essential if you want to enjoy success in the second division," Kauczinski continued. "Every game is close. Even though Fürth have just lost heavily for once, they have already shown the quality they have this season," he warned, wary of our forthcoming opponents despite the 5-0 home defeat at the hands of Aue. "Saturday's game is another tough ask. Fürth are a very patient side, so it's a completely different game."

His side may be fourth in the table, but Kauczinski pointed out that nothing is decided at this stage of the season. "There are no promotion candidates in December," he said. "In the end no one will probably be able to compete with Cologne and HSV, but behind them there's a chasing pack and we want to be in the running for as long as possible. We aim to keep winning games and then see what happens. It's awesome to be in contention at the top," Kauczinski concluded.
