LIENEN TARGETS MAXIMUM HAUL

In the run-up to the final home game of the season against Greuther Fürth on Sunday (kick-off: 1530 CET), Ewald Lienen took time out to field questions from the Hamburg media. The 63-year-old spoke about the personnel situation before turning his attention to the opposition.

Missing from the squad for Sunday are Jeremy Dudziak (shoulder operation) and Joel Keller (ill). "Otherwise everyone's ready and available," a delighted Lienen said. The St. Pauli boss was full of praise for his players after second division safety was guaranteed with two games left to play: "We did it because of the sense of togetherness in the dressing room and the squad," Lienen said. "Every single player put all their energy into it."

Lienen continued: "Even though we've achieved our objective no one needs to worry about a possible lack of motivation. The lads have worked really well in training this week. The energy levels were right and the standard in training was top-notch. I'm expecting a really interesting game. We won't be dropping down a gear and simply letting the season run its course. In this situation we want to reach the target the players have set themselves. We want the maximum possible."

And plenty is still possible. The Boys of Brown have won five games on the bounce, and two more victories would see them break the club record of six wins in succession. The final league placing is also of importance, as Lienen is aware: "In a situation where every point is vital if we want to achieve a better ranking in the TV revenue table, we'll be giving it all we've got. We want to do as well as possible in the last two games."

Greuther Fürth come to the Millerntor sitting in sixth place in the table. "They're a really good team who secured second division safety early on," said Lienen. The visitors have not won any of their last three games, but have been badly hit by injury and suspension. "They may have lost a few games in the second half of the season, but they've shown they don't concede many goals," said Lienen. Indeed, Fürth's solid defence have leaked just ten goals since the winter break, just one more than the Boys in Brown. "They've got loads of talented young players as well," added Lienen, who reserved special praise for Dominik Schad, 20, who has done well on the flank this term.
