Luhukay: Tomorrow is an opportunity to do better

With two home games left in 2019, SV Wehen Wiesbaden are the visitors to the Millerntor on Saturday (1300 CET). Ahead of the clash with the promoted team, head coach Jos Luhukay talked about…

…the personnel situation: "Philipp Ziereis is missing due to suspension and James Lawrence is also out with a knee problem. We’ll have to see whether he needs an operation or not. We’ll know by Monday at the latest. Mats Møller Dæhli is also sidelined after receiving a knock on his ankle and calf. Nothing’s broken, but he can't play tomorrow. Christopher Buchtmann and Rico Benatelli are back in the squad after seven and five weeks out injured respectively. They've been back in training for the last two weeks and haven't had any problems. They’ve made a good impression."

…the reshuffle in the centre of defence: " We don't have too many options after losing Ziereis and Lawrence but we still have Marvin Knoll and Florian Carstens. Flo was out of action for four weeks and he only returned to full training this week. It's too soon for him, so Marvin is the only option really."

…SV Wehen Wiesbaden: "They're a team who can make life difficult for a lot of other sides every week. They’re a very well organised, compact unit and really dangerous on the break. They have two fast wingers who are dangerous in front of goal and, in Manuel Schäffler, a central striker who I have great respect for. He’s already scored eleven goals for a team who are next to bottom in the division."

…own style of play: "We have to be fully focused and perform at our best if we’re to beat Wehen Wiesbaden. Normally, we want to come out on top through skill, but if the situation demands then we have to be flexible. If you have a striker like Henk Veerman, who is two metres tall, then you can put in aerial crosses. We don't forbid it. Our best chance at Regensburg for Møller Dæhli came from a long ball to Henk."

…the poor conversion rate: "We had four or five good chances at Regensburg but didn’t score. That doesn't make it easy to win games. Hannover and Regensburg didn’t have many chances but left the pitch victorious. That wasn't easy for the lads mentally. We are below average in terms of our effectiveness and goal ratio. There’s only really Dimitrios Diamantakos who stands out for us, as none of the other attackers has scored more than two goals. Ultimately, these are the numbers that leave us where we are. Before the start of the season, I said our wingers and midfielders have to be more efficient and provide more goals and assists. At the moment we don't have that effectiveness. We'll have to up our goal ratio in future. That's the biggest potential for us to improve in the second half of the season. More goals mean more points. If the goals start coming again, we can have a lot of fun. We must and will work hard on it."

...coaching effectiveness: "Every player has to keep believing even if he's missed several chances. Tomorrow is another game and the 90 minutes will provide an opportunity for the team and individual players to produce a top performance. We have to work hard and believe it to get that last bit of luck you need. Every player has to give his all. We can't change what happened last week. That's yesterday's news. Tomorrow we’ve got the chance to do better."
