Miyaichi extends St. Pauli stay

The squad planning for the new season continues apace. Director of sport Uwe Stöver and Ryo Miyaichi have agreed terms on a new two-year deal that will keep the attacking midfielder at the Millerntor until 30 June 2021. Miyaichi joined the Boys in Brown from Arsenal in 2015. Owing to a number of serious knee injuries, the 26-year-old has made 38 second division appearances for the club to date (5 goals) plus two in the DFB Cup.

"Ryo has gone through difficult times at the club in which we've signalled to him that we stand by him," said director of sport Uwe Stöver. "For me, signing a new contract is a commitment from Ryo to the club. We very much appreciate that. Ryo is a great lad of flawless character and in footballing terms we see more potential after his injuries. We'll support him in exploiting that potential."

Markus Kauczinski is also pleased to retain the services of the flank player: "Ryo is a technically gifted, fleet-footed attacking player whose pace makes him very difficult to stop. This season he's also shown that he can create chances and score goals with his head. He's a very positive person and an outstanding fit for the team."

In the four years he has been at St. Pauli the club has grown on Miyaichi more and more, so he is delighted to continue playing for the Boys in Brown: "For me it was clear from the outset that I would extend my contract here. The club stood by me in a very difficult time. I'm very grateful to the club, the fans and the officials for this support. Hamburg and St. Pauli have become my second home. My family and I love this city and the club. I'm trying to pay the club back on the pitch for this trust. No matter where the journey takes us, I will always give my all for St. Pauli."
