PADERBORN REACTION – DEJECTION IN THE DRESSING ROOM

After the 2-1 DFB Cup defeat at SC Paderborn we collected a few quotes in the mixed zone. As well as being disappointed about the result, the players were concerned about the injury to Lasse Sobiech, who collided with an opponent in the 78th minute.
Bernd Nehrig: "We didn't get into the game the way we wanted. In the first half we were unable to make our presence felt in attack, though we didn't give much away at the back either. It was difficult to come back once we'd gone behind. We built up more pressure from the back and pulled a goal back while a man down, but it wasn't enough. That's the way it is in this competition. You don't get a second chance to put things right."
Philipp Heerwagen: "We don't like losing. Everyone's dejected in the dressing room. It was a daft goal to concede just before half-time but the decisive moment came when Lasse was unable to carry on. He was missing in the middle when they made it 2-0. We took the fight to them with ten men and deservedly got a goal back, but it was the first half where we missed the opportunity to get another and level the scores."
Daniel Buballa: "In the first half we didn't show the energy levels needed against a highly motivated team like Paderborn. We were always a step too slow and lost a number of challenges, yet we didn't give a lot away. After they went ahead with a speculative effort it was difficult to keep chasing. In the second half I always had the feeling we'd score if we kept things tight at the back, but we couldn't get a grip on things. We still shouldn't have gone out like that, though."
Christopher Buchtmann: "We have to take the chances we get in a game like that. We had the opportunities, especially towards the end of the game. It's annoying. Paderborn did very well, we have to recognise that, but I'm still irritated by the defeat because I'm a very bad loser. Our next game is already on Friday and we have to do better."
Mats Møller Dæhli: "The game was made for Paderborn after they took the lead. We have to chase the game and they can defend."
Waldemar Sobota: "Paderborn punished us twice in clinical fashion and it's tough then, of course."
Director of sport Andreas Rettig: "The difference between the third and second divisions isn't that big. It's down to nuances. It was clear it was going to be a tight game. Paderborn were worth the win. The most important thing for us now is to put this setback behind us quickly. I hope Lasse recovers quickly. That's what's most on my mind at the moment."
