Pre-season training begins on Monday

The four-week summer break comes to an end for the senior squad on Monday when Olaf Janssen welcomes his players to pre-season training for the first time as head coach. Two players will still be away on holiday, and three will be making their bow in St. Pauli colours.
Furnished with personalised training plans, the players entered a well-deserved summer break after the 3-1 victory at VfL Bochum. Thanks to an outstanding recovery after the winter break (ten wins, four draws, three defeats), the Boys in Brown ended the 2016/17 season in seventh place, allowing them to embark on their holidays with a very good feeling indeed.
Lasse Sobiech and Co. will kick off the new campaign with a blood lactate test on Monday morning. In assistant coach Markus Gellhaus (formerly Hannover 96), striker Sami Allagui (Hertha BSC) and defender Clemens Schoppenhauer (Kickers Würzburg), three new recruits will take to the training ground for the first time in St. Pauli colours.
Two players will be absent when training resumes, however. Mats Møller Dæhli, on loan from SC Freiburg for another year, and Aziz Bouhaddouz have been on international duty during the summer break (Møller Dæhli with Norway, Bouhaddouz with Morocco) and will not hook up with the rest of the squad until the second week, by which time their teammates will already have several training sessions and the opening warm-up game at Buxtehuder SV (Saturday, 24 June, 1500 CET).
