Following the recent change at the helm St. Pauli are able to announce another adjustment to the coaching team with the departure of Abder Ramdane. The 43-year-old joined the club two-and-a-half years ago along with Ewald Lienen, with whom he worked for some ten years altogether.
"Abder has done a good job here in the last few years and had a hand in two successful relegation battles," said director of sport Andreas Rettig. "Abder informed us that because of his special ties with Ewald Lienen it would be difficult for him to work as an assistant coach for us in a new setup. We very much regret that we are unable to offer him a position at the club at the moment that matches his wishes and abilities."
Ramdane said: "It was a very tough decision for me, especially because I've felt very much at home here at the club. Because of the history I have with Ewald Lienen, however, there was no question of me working in a new setup at St. Pauli at this time, though I would like to stress that this decision has absolutely nothing to do with Olaf Janssen and would have been the same under any other coach. I see the new situation as an opportunity for me and will now look to establish myself as a head coach at youth or senior level or continue working as an assistant coach. I would like to finish by thanking the coaching staff, the team, the officials and the club staff for two-and-a-half fantastic years. I'm happy and proud to have been a part of the history of this club. I'd like to wish Olaf Janssen, the team and the whole club all the best and the greatest possible success."
