Trulsen appointed second assistant coach

FC St. Pauli have completed their coaching team for the forthcoming season with the appointment of record appearance-maker André Trulsen. The former FCSP coach will work alongside head coach Markus Kauczinski and assistant coach Markus Gellhaus. Trulsen, 53, has signed a contract to 30 June 2020. In his role as second assistant coach, he will also share responsibility for the management and development of the young professionals and Under-23 and Under-19 players.

"We're happy that André is coming back to St. Pauli," said director of sport Uwe Stöver. André is predestined to do the job. He's a coach who knows the club and the needs of young players inside out. In addition to his duties with the senior squad, he will therefore work very closely with the younger players, oversee the development training and regularly watch the Under-23 and Under-19 matches."

Trulsen said he was delighted to be returning his former stomping ground: "I'm very happy to be back home – at home at FC St. Pauli. I'm looking forward to working with my coaching colleagues, the lads and the whole team. Our collective success is my highest priority."

Trulsen made a record-breaking 409 appearances (31 goals, 7 assists) for the St. Pauli first team. After retiring he spent a year as assistant coach at Holstein Kiel (2003 – 2004) before coaching the Boys in Brown under Holger Stanislawski in the third-tier Regionalliga from 2004 to 2007. On promotion to Bundesliga 2 in 2007, Trulsen took charge of the first team, as Stanislawski did not have his coaching badge at the time, before returning to the assistant coach role from 2008 to 2011. He then had spells as assistant coach at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (2011 – 2012), 1. FC Köln (2012 – 2013), VfB Stuttgart (2015) and Sportfreunde Lotte (2017).
