"UNION WERE A TOUCH BETTER" – THE POST-MATCH REACTION

Union Berlin just edged a game that was a great advert for second division football. While the visitors were understandably jubilant on securing their fifth win the bounce, the mood in the home camp was not too despondent after a good performance that unfortunately went unrewarded.

Lasse Sobiech: "We struggled to get going in the first 25 minutes. The key moments arrived immediately after the restart when we could have equalised but ended up going further behind. We had several good chances and it was a game we needn't have lost. We don't have to hide from anyone and will continue the way we're going."

Mats Møller Dæhli: "Union are a really good side and were tough opposition today. They got into the game better because they showed more aggression than we did. We didn't play badly, though, far from it, Union were just a touch better. They had good opportunities, but so did we. In the end, they took one more chance than we did."

Aziz Bouhaddouz: "In Union Berlin we hosted the best side in the league today. We kept putting them under pressure and played some effective football going forward. If we'd made better use of our chances, and there were plenty of them, we could have turned the game round. I can't really take pleasure from scoring because I'd rather have had a point, but we didn't have the luck on our side tonight. If we keep playing like this, I'm in no doubt we can win the next game."

Marc Hornschuh: "It was end-to-end stuff. Union are very good going forward, as they demonstrated today. We took a while to get into the game but over the 90 minutes you have to say we'd have deserved a point."

Philipp Heerwagen: "Union are obviously different quality. They hardly ever gave the ball away and it took a lot of effort to fight off such a good footballing side. The goals they scored today are the ones scored by a team going up. They show the quality they have in the team and are the reason they're at the top end of the table. And yet we still had a chance to turn it round and get a point. I'll have a sleepless night tonight because I hate losing. We'll analyse the game and draw a line under it. Then we'll start preparing for Hannover, the next top side we come up against."

Emanuel Pogatetz (Union Berlin): "Friday evening, a fantastic setting and we get three points – what more could you want? It couldn't have gone any better today, even though we should have put the game to bed earlier. I could have been sent off but got away with it."

Toni Leistner (Union Berlin): "It wasn't easy against the third best team this year. St. Pauli have a lot of quality. I'm glad we saw the game out. It's a milestone because it was our first win at the Millerntor."

Sebastian Polter (Union Berlin): "We knew it would be a tough game against St. Pauli. They're a class side and were on a fine run. We gave our utmost today to stay in contention at the top and we got our reward. It's a great feeling to break the club record with five wins in a row."
