Dźwigała: "I always do my best in training to be ready"

Adam Dźwigała delivered a strong performance in the 1-0 win at Heidenheim, demonstrating that he can always be relied upon when needed. After training on Wednesday, the Polish defender took time out to answer questions from the media.

Adam Dźwigała on…

...the win at Heidenheim: "It was a very tough game. It wasn't easy for us because Heidenheim defended aggressively. They're a good team with good players who are difficult to play against. We're obviously delighted to have taken all three points."

...returning to the starting lineup: "I'd been waiting a long time to start a game again and so I was happy, of course. You still have to be positive when you aren't playing. You don't perform well if you have too many negative thoughts. It's part of being a footballer. Only eleven players can start and the coach decides which eleven. We've been playing really well, so I've had to be patient. I always do my best in training to be ready. You play how you train. That's my motto."

...the possibility of another start at home against Braunschweig: "That's a question for the coach. I'll do my best to get another start."

...the solid defence with just three goals conceded in the second half of the campaign: "We focus a lot on our defence in training and attach great importance to not conceding. That's the key to picking up lots of points. Everyone does their bit, the forwards are our first line of defence. All the attacking players help out in defence, which means we don't allow teams many chances to score. When we're solid at the back and scoring goals up front, we win games. It's going well. We can be pleased with the performance at Heidenheim, but you can always do better. There's no such thing as a perfect game, mistakes will always happen."

Adam Dźwigała (seen here in an aerial battle with Tim Siersleben) had the best tackle success rate for the Boys in Brown against Heidenheim, winning 13 of his 14 duels for an outstanding 92.9 per cent.

...his solid performances when needed: "On the one hand, you need the quality to perform well. On the other, mental strength is maybe even more important. Always ready, even when things aren't going as you'd like. That's how it was for me when I picked up an injury in the first game back at Nürnberg after having a good mid-season preparation. It wasn't easy for me, but I stayed positive and that helped me be ready to play."

...the feeling after ten consecutive wins: "You become more confident, of course, when you win so many games in a row. We always try to pull in the same direction. We don't feel unbeatable. It's football. We always prepare for the next game. We know eleven wins in a row would be a new record, but we don't feel any pressure, we just want to enjoy ourselves - both on and off the ball. We have to keep going the way we have been doing."

...the visit of Braunschweig: "Every game's a tough game in this league. We don't think it'll be any easier just because we're at home and Braunschweig are lower down the table. On the contrary, we expect it to be harder, which means we have to prepare very well again."

...potential opportunities and targets for the rest of the season and his future: "We're focusing solely on the next game. I hope we can keep it up, of course. We aren't thinking about the future, we're taking things step by step. I'm very happy here and would like to stay longer, but I'm only focusing on the football. My agent takes care of everything else."
