Aremu joins Kaiserslautern

FC St. Pauli have agreed terms with league rivals FC Kaiserslautern, who provided the opposition for the Boys in Brown on the opening day of the season, for the transfer of Afeez Aremu. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any details of the deal.

The 23-year-old Nigerian midfielder moved to St. Pauli from Norwegian top-division club IK Start Kristiansand at the start of the 2020/21 season and made a total of 54 Bundesliga 2 appearances for the club plus another five in the DFB Cup.

Reaction to the move:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: " Afeez was an important part of the team, not least because of his defensive qualities. We would have liked to continue our association with him and documented that when we extended his contract in the winter. He wasn't happy with his role behind the first-team regulars in midfield, however, so we looked to find a mutually satisfactory solution and have now found it. I wish Afeez all the best for his future career."

Afeez Aremu: "I spent three intensive years in Hamburg that I’ll always remember fondly. I'm very grateful to FC St. Pauli for the progress I've been able to make here, but to go to the next level I'd like to get more playing time and I hope I'll get that at Kaiserslautern. I wish the team all the best and look forward to seeing them again in the second half of the season."
