The Boys in Brown have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Scottish right-winger Scott Banks on loan from Crystal Palace Under-21s until the end of the season under a deal agreed by director of sport Andreas Bornemann and the management of the Premier League outfit.
Banks joined Crystal Palace in January 2020 and has had loan spells at Dunfermline Athletic FC and Bradford City, among others, in the meantime. The 21-year-old has made a total of 31 appearances in League Two in England, scoring six goals and providing five assists. To that can be added 28 Premier League 2 outings (14 goals, 7 assists). He has also made six appearances for the Scotland Under-21 side to date.
Reaction to the deal
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Scott Banks brings a very good overall package and gives us another attacking option. He has pace and agility combined with an intelligent style of play and technical ability. He has already demonstrated at his previous clubs that he has the attributes to do well at senior level."
Head coach Fabian Hürzeler: "In Scott Banks, we're getting a player who can score goals himself as well as set up teammates. He's difficult to separate from the ball and finds footballing solutions even when under pressure. Just as important for me, however, is that he's disciplined in his defensive work and puts himself at the service of the team."
Scott Banks: "FC St. Pauli is an exciting address for young players wanting to develop. I come to Hamburg with this in mind and the desire to help the team with my ability on the pitch as often as possible. I have to settle in quickly now, but in this international dressing room I don't think that'll be a problem."
