A second home game in succession brings fourth-placed Arminia Bielefeld to the Millerntor on Sunday (1530 CET) following last week's 3-0 defeat of Greuther Fürth. As usual, we've put together some key stats on our forthcoming opponents.
Early business
Arminia have already completed three new transfers for next season. The new additions are Cédric Brunner, 26, from FC Zurich, Faroe Island striker Jóan Símun Edmundsson, 26, from Danish top-flight side Odense BK and young forward Prince Osei Owusu, 21, from TSG Hoffenheim II. All three arrive on free transfers.
Late threat
Sunday's visitors rank third in the league in terms of attempts on goal (484) behind Jahn Regensburg (516) and Ingolstadt (486). Bielefeld have scored 51 goals to date, nine of which have come in second-half stoppage time added-on – best in class by far! At the other end, they have yet to concede in time added-on. Jeff Saibene's side are at their most vulnerable in the first quarter of an hour after the interval, having conceded 12 times in this period.
Shooters
With 13 goals and four assists to his name, Andreas Voglsammer is Arminia's most dangerous player so far. Nine of those 13 strikes have come away from home, and seven have given his team a 1-0 lead. The 26-year-old striker has also registered the most attempts on goal of any Bielefeld player (103) and made the most tackles (775 = 48.8 per cent success rate). Fellow striker Fabian Klos has also posed a threat this season, contributing seven goals and seven assists.
Runners
Jeff Saibene's men have covered more distance than any other second division side (3,845 km). Their strongest runners are Manuel Prietl (368.1 km) and Florian Hartherz (363.7 km). In terms of sprints, Bielefeld rank second in the league behind Ingolstadt (7,262). Their total of 7,262 equates to 221 sprints per game on average. Youngster Roberto Massimo is the fastest member of the Arminia squad with a highest recorded speed of 34.6 km/h.
Youth
Roberto Massimo is not only lightning quick, he is also the youngest debutant in Arminia's history, having made his first appearance for the club in the reverse fixture at the tender age of 17 years, one month and 19 days. The Italo-German is the youngest second division player this season. Arminia have yet to lose a match in which Massimo has played. The 17-year-old right-winger has started each of the last four games, including last time out at Kaiserslautern, when a second young talent in Can Özkan also featured in the starting lineup. The full-back turned 18 in December and has made two first-team appearances to date.
Experience
Taken together, the Bielefeld players have totted up 2,058 second division appearances, second only to our Boys in Brown (2,195), who also have the edge in the head-to-head record. Of the 27 games between the two side, St. Pauli have won 11, Bielefeld eight, and eight have ended all square. The last six games have been evenly balanced, with one win apiece and four draws.
