The draw for the first round of the DFB Cup took place on Saturday evening. Former Bundesliga player Nils Petersen pulled the balls out of the hat and handed the Boys in Brown a trip to Hallescher FC, who were relegated from the third division in the season just ended. The game will take place on or around the third weekend of August (16-19 August), with the exact kick-off time set to be announced in due course.
Halle qualified for the DFB Cup by beating fifth-tier Germania Halberstadt 4-2 after extra-time in the final of the Saxony-Anhalt Cup to lift the trophy for the 11th time in the club's history. Last year they were knocked out in the first round after losing 1-0 to Greuther Fürth.
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "It's sure to be a heated contest in an imposing atmosphere. It's hard to say what Halle we will see next season after their relegation from the third division, but we'll obviously go there with the aim of progressing to the next round."
