Boys in Brown sign Connor Metcalfe

FC St. Pauli have completed their first acquisition for next season with the signing of Connor Metcalfe from reigning Australian champions Melbourne City. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any details about the terms of the transfer.

Metcalfe, 22, made the transition from Melbourne City's youth setup to the senior squad in 2017. Since then, the central midfielder has made a total of 56 A-League appearances, scoring eight goals and providing six assists. He has also played twice for the Australian national team, having previously represented the Socceroos at youth level.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "We're delighted to have taken the first step in our squad planning for next season at this early stage. In Connor Metcalfe, we've acquired a young player who has already gained match practice at a high level and still has plenty of potential to develop."

Head coach Timo Schultz: "Connor Metcalfe can occupy various positions in central midfield and will give us more options and flexibility from next season. He's still young and we'll have to allow him a little time to acclimatise after his move. The fact that he'll be hooking up with a teammate from the national team in Jackson Irvine is sure to help him settle in."
