SCHULTZ: "THAT ANNOYS ME IMMENSELY"

After the soul-destroying defeat at Eintracht Braunschweig, players and coach alike were hugely disappointed with the way the game unfolded.
Head coach Timo Schultz: Congratulations to Eintracht Braunschweig on the win. I'm getting tired of congratulating the home side on their success every time. It wasn't pretty, but it was a decent away performance and we led until the 78th minute before giving it away more or less through our own fault. That's not to diminish the performance of Braunschweig, who got their reward with the winner at the death. We have to look at ourselves. There were some basics we did well, but we weren't good enough in a couple of situations. That annoys me immensely because there was much more there for the taking today. As it is, we go home empty-handed."
Marcel Hartel: It's bitter to concede the winner in the last second. We weren't as consistent after we scored. Braunschweig tried to switch the play quickly, but we held our own well and tried to create chances. It isn't ideal when two players come on without warming up, and though they played well that isn’t the main reason we didn’t win. We could have prevented the first goal more easily. We lacked a bit of maturity there."
Eric Smith: "After we took the lead, we were more passive for five minutes. That was enough for Braunschweig to equalise. We tried to hit back but the ball wouldn't go in. This is what happens in the situation we're in. It all comes down to the details. It was like our last game. We have to work hard to make these little things go in our favour again. We don't deserve it at the moment. It's no easy task. We didn't defend the equaliser well enough. We tried to play football and you can lose the ball when you do that. The early substitutions had an effect on the game. Jackson is our captain, but we recovered well from the changes. The derby is the best game to have after a defeat like that. We'll try to get the momentum on our side. A derby is a derby and that's exactly what we need at the moment."
Igor Matanović: "It is hard to find the words right now. We had the first half completely under control. We played well up to the penalty area, but then lacked consistency. We also need to be smart sometimes, a long ball here, maybe a tactical foul there. We had a similar game at Braunschweig two years ago and you saw the second half of the season we had, but that isn't enough today. We have to go flat out to the end. My header was close, but that's not enough. The bottom line is we lost."
Michael Schiele (Braunschweig head coach): "We're obviously overjoyed about scoring the winner on the stroke of full-time. We knew we'd have to work hard. We did that and were able to keep them away from our goal. We had chances as well. We even managed to deal with hitting the post and them taking the lead with a speculative effort. We deserved to equalise and didn't pack our defence before we got the winner, instead we sent everyone forward, had some good movement and then Manu stuck it away. From that point of view, we're very satisfied. Huge compliments to my team."
