Viet leaves the Boys in Brown

Midfielder Christian Viet is leaving FC St. Pauli to join league rivals Jahn Regensburg after the player and the two clubs reached a corresponding agreement, under which no details of the transfer will be disclosed.

Viet spent the season just ended on loan with Borussia Dortmund's second string in the third division. The 23-year-old joined the club's youth academy in early 2017, playing first for the Under-19s and then the Under-23s. He made the transition to the senior squad for the 2020/21 season, making a total of ten competitive appearances.

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: Christian progressed very well with us and recently took another step forward at Dortmund. Nevertheless, it would have been hard for him to get the playing time he needs and wants next season given the competition in his positions. So a move is the best solution for everyone involved. We wish Christian all the best in his future endeavours."

Christian Viet: I learned and experienced a lot at St. Pauli and was able to mature as a player here. I'll always have fond memories of the club and my first professional stint. I'm looking forward now to the new assignment in Regensburg and hopefully playing against my former teammates again. I wish St. Pauli all the best and a successful season."
