" EVERYONE'S PULLING THEIR WEIGHT, YOU FEEL IT ON THE PITCH"

The Boys in Brown followed up their opening-day success at Magdeburg by winning their first home game of the new season as well. So it was only natural that the mood in the St. Pauli camp was buoyant after a hard-fought 90 minutes.

Director of sport Uwe Stöver: "We played with patience and were tenacious in the tackle throughout the 90 minutes. We were also very effective. We had four good opportunities and took two. We're happy, but not euphoric. I'm especially pleased because you get the feeling there's a team out there. Everyone knows what to do. The points come automatically then."

Christopher Avevor: "We knew it wouldn't be easy and Darmstadt were the unpleasant opposition we were expecting. We had almost everything under control in defence and gave very little away. It was important to keep a clean sheet and we did that. Our goals were really well worked! First, Mats plays an outstanding ball for Richy and then Richy forces his way through superbly and sets up Buchti. Nothing beats winning your first home game on a Friday night with the fans behind you. We're obviously very happy with the six points, but we're only at the start of our journey. We can be confident going into the next game against Wehen Wiesbaden, though we'll need to be fully focused once again."

Johannes Flum: "I'm pleased we put in a good performance against good opposition but it's all just a snapshot. We were patient, you don't get many chances against Darmstadt. We gave little away at the back. We wanted to get off to a good start at the Millerntor, which is what we did. I hope it's the first many more positive steps."

Christopher Buchtmann: "Everyone's pulling their weight, you feel it on the pitch. It's important to keep a clean sheet and we deserved to win 2-0. Our biggest asset is our gegenpressing, which we do very well. We've taken the spirit from last season but have to keep our feet on the ground. Today and tomorrow we can enjoy the fact that the first two games have gone really well before we go again next week. In the cup we want to go through to the next round at last. It's going to be tough season, we have another 32 league games in front of us after all."

Marvin Knoll: "It was an amazing atmosphere today – both in the stands and on the pitch. It was really good fun! At the moment you can tell there's a team out there, not just the first eleven, but the ones behind as well. It's very important that we pull together and everyone's needed. As you saw today, Richy comes into the team and scores one and makes one. That's what you want because that's team sport. It's also important to get off to a good start. After that you can get into a run that you have to keep going as long as possible. I hope we can carry on being successful. We can't win every game, of course, but want to keep playing football with the same passion."

Aytac Sulu (SV Darmstadt 98): "We played really well for 70 minutes and had the better chances. If my header had gone in, it would probably have gone differently. We defended well and gave nothing away apart from the two goals. Twice we didn't defend solidly on the flanks, it was difficult to defend both times. But perhaps we could have cleared it better beforehand."
