BUBALLA: "DARMSTADT WERE A TOUCH MORE STREETWISE"

After Saturday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Darmstadt, we canvassed the views of some of the players.

Waldemar Sobota: "We knew it would be difficult and Darmstadt would be tight and solid at the back. We struggled in the final third and didn't create the opportunities to shoot. It's extremely disappointing to concede from a set play. We weren't the worse team today, we simply failed to get the goals. We have to draw a line under it and look forward."

Daniel Buballa: "Today we lacked the resoluteness that has made us stand out in recent games but it's difficult against a side as compact as Darmstadt. We had the chances but didn't see them through to the end. Darmstadt were a touch more streetwise and determined than us."

Marvin Knoll: "We tried everything and wanted to play football. They shut down the passing angles and looked to break through Heller. That was all they had. We didn't find the answers or the composure to create chances in the final third, but when nothing goes for you up front, you have to at least take a point. To concede out of the blue – Darmstadt hadn't been a threat until then – and lose the game is very disappointing."

Robin Himmelmann: "Darmstadt performed well defensively and gave us little space but having said that I don't think we lacked ideas. We kept popping up dangerously in their box. Darmstadt sat back and tried to break, which we prevented with good gegenpressing, but we never really built up a head of steam like we have been doing. Obviously, we can't play on the limit every week, even if that's our aim, but in that case, we have to keep a clean sheet, which is our fault. There was no need to lose against an unadventurous, defensive team like them."

Mats Møller Dæhli: "I felt we had the energy and the passion; we just lacked a bit of quality. Darmstadt did well, it's tough to play against them. We have to keep going and keep working hard. We had a good spell in the first 20 minutes and we should have scored. And if we can't do that, we have to take a point. We shouldn't be conceding from set pieces like that."

Marcel Schuhen (SV Darmstadt 98): "It feels so good just now. It's a weight off our shoulders. It was a nice, dirty 1-0 win in the drizzle. It was important for us to win. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how."
