Midfielder Youba Diarra arrives on loan

FC St. Pauli have strengthened in midfield with the addition of Youba Diarra from Austrian top-flight club RB Salzburg. The 21-year-old Malian has signed a loan deal that will keep him at the Millerntor until 30 June 2020.

"Our aim was to be even better placed in midfield and that's what the addition of Youba does for us," said director of sport Andreas Bornemann. "He's a talented player who convinced us with his dynamic style of play."

Head coach Jos Luhukay is also delighted by the move: "Youba is a flexible player who gives us more options in midfield."

"I'm delighted to be able to strengthen FC St. Pauli this season and I'm sure I'll settle in here very well," Diarra said. "I've already heard lots of good things about the club and its fantastic fans and I hope to be out on the pitch with my new teammates very soon."

Diarra began his career at Yeelen Olympique in Mali and joined RB Salzburg in January 2018. The Austrian Bundesliga outfit sent him out on loan to their cooperation partners SC Wiener Neustadt, for whom he made 16 second division appearances. The Malian midfielder then spent the 2018-19 season on loan at TSV Hartberg, also of the Austrian Bundesliga, making a total 12 appearances
