AWAY TO FC 08 HOMBURG IN THE LAST 16

The draw for the DFB Cup Round of 16 was made on Sunday afternoon. Fabian Hürzeler’s side have been handed a trip to FC 08 Homburg. The game will be played on 5/6 December, with the precise kick-off time to be announced by the German Football Association (DFB) in the next few days.

The Boys in Brown progressed to the last 16 with a comfortable 5-0 win at Atlas Delmenhorst in in the first round followed by a dramatic 2-1 victory over Schalke 04 at the Millerntor in the second. And now the Hürzeler XI have been handed a trip to fourth-tier outfit FC 08 Homburg in the Round of 16.

Homburg kicked off their cup campaign with a 3-0 defeat of newly promoted Bundesliga outfit Darmstadt 98 before beating Greuther Fürth of the second division by two goals to one to go through to the last 16. It will be the 14th meeting of the two sides in total and the second in the DFB Cup, with Homburg winning the first 2-1 after extra-time back in 1995.

Head coach Fabian Hürzeler on the draw: "I’ve played with a number of the Homburg players. They’re having a good season in the league. They’re third and have to be treated like a third-division side really. They’ve shown they can hurt any opposition in the cup, so in that respect it’s a challenge we’ll approach with maximum professionalism."

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "You can’t afford to underestimate any team that has knocked out a Bundesliga side in Darmstadt in the first round and then one of the best footballing sides in the second division in Fürth. Nevertheless, we’ll go to Homburg in early December with the clear aim of progressing to the quarter-final."
