BOYS IN BROWN WIN 3-0 AT DUNFERMLINE IN OPENING PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY

FC St. Pauli won 3-0 at Dunfermline Athletic as part of their Levi's UK Football Has No Gender tour. Johannes Eggestein, Hauke Wahl and David Otto got the goals for the Boys in Brown. In Robin Müller, Luca Günther and Bennet Winter, head coach Fabian Hürzeler fielded three Under-23 players for the opening pre-season friendly.

The Boys in Brown made a bright start and created some decent opportunities in the opening stages. Johannes Eggestein eventually opened the scoring in the tenth minute following a fine move down the left. Fabian Hürzeler’s side continued to press and almost added a second on 29 when Bennet Winter narrowly missed the target with a backheeled effort from a deflected ball into the middle.

The Under-23 striker had another good chance eight minutes before the break. Eric Smith knocked a beautiful defence-splitting pass into the path of the advancing Winter, who was denied by a decent stop from keeper Deniz Mehmet.

Hürzeler rang the changes at half-time, with Eggestein the only player to continue in the second half. And just two minutes in one of the new boys was celebrating his first goal in the brown-and white jersey. Centre-back Hauke Wahl was perfectly placed to score following a corner.

A quarter of an hour from the end, substitute David Otto added a third from a textbook cross by Manolis Saliakas. It could have been four on 85 but a defender somehow managed to get in the way of Etienne Amenyido’s shot and the same player went agonisingly close just before the end when his header smacked against the post.
