Zehir departs

Another departure at FC St. Pauli - Ersin Zehir is leaving the Boys in Brown after club and player mutually agreed to cancel the midfielder's contract, which was due to run until June 2023.

Starting in the Under-17s, Zehir rose through the club's youth ranks and made the transition to the senior squad at the start of the 2018/19 season, going on to make a total of 21 second division appearances (two assists) for the Boys in Brown. Zehir spent last season on loan at third division side VfB Lübeck, scoring six goals and providing four assists in 30 outings.

Reaction to the contract termination:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Ersin had been at FC St. Pauli a long time and gained his first experience as a professional with us. His desire to continue getting regular game time in the future is understandable. Given the competition in Ersin's position, however, that would have been hard to achieve with us next season. We agreed to go down this route to give him an opportunity to address a new challenge. I wish him every success in that."

Ersin Zehir: "I'm very grateful to FC St. Pauli for giving me the opportunity to develop into a professional footballer. I'll always have fond memories of the club, the Millerntor, my teammates and the fans. At the same time, I want to take the next step in my development, which is why I'm taking on a new footballing assignment."
