Thanks for everything and all the best for the future!

As at the end of every season, the time has come to bid farewell to a number of players. Besides Simon Zoller, who is hanging up his boots, Sascha Burchert, Sören Ahlers, Eric Oelschlägel, Andreas Albers and loanees Siebe Van der Heyden, Robert Wagner and Noah Weißhaupt are all leaving the club.

In Sören Ahlers, Sascha Burchert and Eric Oelschlägel, not one but three goalkeepers are departing this summer. Ahlers joined the Boys in Brown in the summer of 2021 and made 21 appearances for the Under-23s before an injury ruled him out completely last year. Burchert, who arrived in 2022 and like Ahlers was sidelined by injury last year, made four DFB Cup appearances in the 2023/24 season and also kept goal twice for the Under-23s. When Ben Voll joined Ahlers and Burchert as the third goalkeeper on the casualty list, the club signed out-of-contract Eric Oelschlägel in October 2024. The 29-year-old shotstopper filled in as second-choice keeper until the winter break and in the second half of the season made two appearances for the Under-23s.

Simon Zoller played just six times in a two-year spell at the Millerntor due to injury and missed the whole of last season. He is now ending his career and returning to VfL Bochum in a new function. Andreas Albers is also leaving the club this summer after making 33 appearances and scoring two goals in his two years with the club. The Danish striker remained a squad player for the most part but was highly regarded by his teammates. He has yet to decide whether he will keep playing or not and has already laid the foundations for a career outside of football, having just obtained a distance learning law degree.

The Boys in Brown also say farewell to Robert Wagner, who arrived on loan from SC Freiburg in the season just ended. Wagner, who enjoyed a lot of playing time early in the season before being ruled out by a thigh injury, has already found a new club in newly relegated Holstein Kiel, for whom he will play on loan next term. Noah Weißhaupt also joined the club from Freiburg in winter and will return to the Black Forest outfit for now. The winger featured in every game, almost always from the start, and notched his only goal in the crucial 1-0 home defeat of TSG Hoffenheim. Siebe van der Heyden was another to move to the Millerntor in winter, arriving on loan from RCD Mallorca in late January. Like Weißhaupt, the left-sided defender helped the Boys in Brown avoid the drop with some excellent performances in the second part of the season and also contributed a goal in the 1-1 draw at Wolfsburg. He now returns to the Spanish top-division club for now.
