FC St. Pauli sign centre-forward Maurides

FC St. Pauli have bolstered their attack with the addition of the Maurides Roque Junior. The 28-year-old Brazilian moves to Hamburg from Poland's first division.

The 6'2"/1.89m centre-forward scored four goals and made another four in 16 appearances for Radomiak Radom this season. In total, the striker made 50 appearances for the Polish club, contributing ten goals and six assists. Before that, Maurides played in China (three goals and two assists in 14 games), in Bulgaria for CSKA Sofia (13 goals and four assists in 27 appearances), in Portugal (20 goals and nine assists in 86 games), and in his native Brazil. Maurides will wear the number nine shirt for FC St. Pauli.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Maurides fits the profile we were looking for of a physically robust striker who can hold the ball up and score goals. The experience he has gained from playing in several different countries will also improve us."

Caretaker head coach Fabian Hürzeler:  "Maurides gives us another attacking option. He runs strongly at the opposition, puts defenders under pressure and is creative when finishing - but he also sees teammates when they're in a better position."

Maurides Roque Junior: "I sought out information about FC St. Pauli and heard only good things. I'm always looking for new challenges and want to help the club climb back up the table."
