FC St. Pauli sign Greece international Manolis Saliakas

FC St. Pauli have made their second new signing for next season with the acquisition of Manolis Saliakas from Greek top-division club PAS Giannina.

The 25-year-old right-back has made a total of 70 appearances in the Greek top flight for Giannina, PAS Lamia and Olympiacos (two goals, three assists), on top of which come 21 outings in the Greek championship round and relegation play-offs (2 assists). This season he has started every game for Giannina with the exception of two play-off matches. Saliakas began his international career in the Greece Under-17 side and rose through the ranks to the senior squad, for whom he has made two appearances to date.

Reaction to the deal:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "In Manolis Saliakas we have completed another important transfer for the coming season. He has made steady progress in recent years and performed at a consistently high level in Greece. In our view he is not at the end of his development yet and we're delighted he's chosen FC St. Pauli to continue to make his way."

Head coach Timo Schultz: "Manolis Saliakas is a full-back who can make an impact at both ends of the field and be a valuable addition for us. He's attacks the ball with venom and brings a lot of dynamism going forward. He's also responsible for lots of set pieces at his current club, so he gives us more options in this area."

Manolis Saliakas: "It feels very good to be a part of this very special club in future. It was my wish to take the next step in my career abroad and I'm delighted to be able to play for St. Pauli in future."
