The Boys in Brown have completed the signing of another player for the new season in centre-back Jannik Robatsch, 20, who arrives from Austria Klagenfurt. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any details of the transfer.
Robatsch moved to Klagenfurt from the youth setup of ATUS Velden in February 2020 and went on to make 41 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga plus another five in the ÖFB Cup, scoring twice. The left-sided defender also made his debut for the Austrian Under-21 side in March.
Reaction to the deal
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: “Jannik has a very exciting profile and experience on a good level. We think he has the ability to enter the competition for playing time right away but given his young age we want to give him the time he needs to get used to our style of play and the pace of the Bundesliga.”
Head coach Alexander Blessin: “Jannik is a courageous operator, both on the ball and in his defensive work. He makes skilful use of his physique and doesn’t take unnecessary risks. His biggest strengths are in central defence, but he can be deployed on the flank as well. With his height, he’s also a factor at set pieces and carries an attacking threat with his headers.”
Jannik Robatsch: “A series of young players have made the step-up to a higher level at FC St. Pauli in recent years. I’d like to take the opportunity to do the same and prove myself in the Bundesliga. I’m eager to get to know my new teammates, the city of Hamburg and, of course, the Millerntor and the fans.
