FC St. Pauli have taken a further step in their squad strengthening with the capture of Johannes Flum from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. The 29-year-old midfielder has signed a deal that will run until 30 June 2018.
Flum joined Eintracht Frankfurt in 2013 and made 38 Bundesliga appearances (three goals, three assists), plus six in the DFB Cup (one assist) and ten in the Europa League. In total, the 29-year-old brings the experience of 131 top-division appearances to the Millerntor. Flum also clocked up 93 Bundesliga appearances (seven goals, seven assists) in an earlier five-year spell with SC Freiburg between 2008 and 2013. To this can be added 30 Bundesliga 2 appearances (one assist) plus seven in the DFB Cup (one goal).
What they said
Director of sport Andreas Rettig: "In Johannes Flum we've signed an established Bundesliga player. We're delighted he opted to join St. Pauli despite having other offers. He's a genuine leader both on and off the pitch, an important factor in the battle to avoid relegation."
Head coach Ewald Lienen: "We've gained a key midfielder who gives us additional tactical and playing options. He's a good passer of the ball, very good in the air and will benefit us with his strength of character."
Johannes Flum: "I'm looking forward to my assignment at St. Pauli and want to use my experience to help the club achieve its objective of staying up. It's obviously an advantage that I can go straight to the training camp with rest of the squad to work on the tactical components and get to the know the players really well."
