BUCHTMANN: "GREAT TO BE BACK ON THE PITCH AGAIN"

There were mixed feelings in the St. Pauli camp after Sunday's 2-1 home defeat against Hannover 96, with self-criticism over the performance tempered by the pleasing return of Ryo Miyaichi and Christopher Buchtmann. The post-match reaction...

Head coach Timo Schultz: " We obviously envisaged it going differently. We were determined to sign off here with three points but couldn't. We conceded two strange goals, but we also gave Hannover too many clear-cut chances and failed to take our own. It was a game between two evenly matched teams, we had more of the ball, Hannover were much better in the challenge. It was just that the situations that decide a game – the tackling and the finishing – went in favour of Hannover 96 today. I don't think it had anything to do with a lack of physical or mental freshness on our part. We have to shrug it off now and then go to Regensburg. They still have something to play for and we want to show we're capable of taking all three points."

Philipp Ziereis: "We made too many simple mistakes, gave the ball away too often and got it wrong in the key situations. We have to accept that we haven't been resolute enough when it matters in the last two games. You lose against teams with good individual quality then. I think it was a totally unnecessary defeat. We have to take the blame for that. There was definitely more in it for us. We wanted to get the maximum from this season and were on the limit for a long time, but that's not an excuse. We want to get three points again at Regensburg."

Christopher Buchtmann: " After a long and difficult time for me, it's great to be back on the pitch again with the lads. It was a great fun and I felt comfortable straightaway. But now we have to digest and analyse the performance because we obviously want to return to winning ways at Regensburg."

Ryo Miyaichi: "It feels good to have played my first game again but unfortunately we lost. It was tough for us after the red card. I hope we can get three points again next week."

Leart Paqarada: "In general, the game didn't go how we wanted it to. We were badly caught out on their first or second chance and our play suffered as a result. We tried to be brave going forward but we struggled. We lacked composure and effectiveness. We have to draw a line under it quickly now so we can finish the season as well as possible at Regensburg."

Kenan Kocak (Hannover head coach): "We wanted to perform well against the best side in the league this year and go back to Hannover with a result, which we did and deservedly so. We showed great tactical discipline, made the space very tight against their excellent midfield and our positional play was particularly good at times. Hats off to the team for the performance and the character and mentality they showed. I'm proud of the way my team played today."
