KNOLL: "THE FANS PLAYED A HUGE PART"

It was bedlam inside the Millerntor after the final whistle. Players and fans were still celebrating long after the game was over. Later, in the mixed zone, the protagonists looked back on a memorable 90 minutes.

Daniel Buballa: "The way we performed today is what makes me proud most of all. From the outset, we showed we wanted nothing else but victory tonight. We played some good football and defended superbly. HSV put us under pressure before the break and we dropped back a bit too deep. You're going to have phases like that against a side as good as HSV and you have to come through them. We did that and in the middle of their second spell of pressure after the restart we struck. With the two-goal cushion we saw the game out very well, which is something we haven't managed in recent weeks. Hats off to the players for a convincing derby performance. You can't do much better than that. We could have started the party a bit earlier if we'd made it 3-0, but it was still outstanding all the same."

Mats Møller Dæhli: "Today was extremely important, the atmosphere was amazing. I'm still a bit lost for words. The fans saw us go to the limit for their values. We had a bit of luck here and there, but it was still great. Every player was simply superb today. It's only three points, though, and we go again against Osnabrück."

Marvin Knoll: "Today we were bold, not like a few months ago. We were impudent and had the confidence to shoot from a bit further out. We lost 4-0 here a few months ago. It was very, very hard to look people in the face. The win tonight is primarily for the fans. They're the ones I'm most pleased for. It was just awesome, the fans carried us through the 90 minutes and over the line. They cheered everything we did. It was incredible. The fans played a huge part in the win. Before the second goal I told Mats he should play the ball in to me because I had so much space, and he delivered a superb pass. Nobody picked me up before the first goal either. Unfortunately, the ball hit the post but then Dimi was there. He's a full-blooded striker who gets in exactly the right place. Today the whole team were on top of their game – both in terms of fight and the football we played – which is why we're deserved derby winners. The win brought us closer together, as you saw afterwards. We have to take that with us. We have to keep going and can't afford to rest on our laurels. The fans are welcome to celebrate for as long as they want, but we can only celebrate today and maybe tomorrow and then we go back to business."

Robin Himmelmann: "Today we won a game that means something special to many people. You saw the jubilation among the fans. I know it's only one of 34 games, but it's a fabulous feeling to celebrate with the fans. If we could have written the script, that's probably exactly how we would have envisioned it going."

Daniel Heuer Fernandes (HSV): "We didn't start the game well, the first 30 minutes were poor from us. We were too defensive and too far away. That's not how we've been playing recently. We did better after the interval but conceded again. It really hurts to lose a derby."

Rick van Drongelen (HSV): "We're feeling bad today. We only got going after 30 minutes, by which time we were already a goal down. We improved after the break but failed to get the equaliser. The game turned on that. I won't sleep well tonight."
