INGOLSTADT FACT FILE

After a relatively short week, the Boys in Brown return to second division action with a trip to FC Ingolstadt 04 on Friday evening (kick-off: 1830 CET). As usual, we've run the rule over our forthcoming opponents.

Historic defeat

Ingolstadt suffered a loss of historic proportions on Sunday. The 6-0 drubbing at VfL Bochum was their biggest defeat in Bundesliga 2 in the club's short history. Previous defeats by the same scoreline came at Bayern Munich in the DFB Cup in 2012 and at FC Saarbrücken in Regionalliga South in 2006. Former Ingolstadt man Lucas Hinterseer, of all people, contributed three of Bochum's six goals in that record-breaking reverse.

Clear commitment

There was much speculation in the media about the future of Ingolstadt coach Stefan Leitl after the disastrous showing in Bochum. Director of sport Angelo Vier gave Leitl an emphatic vote of confidence, however, leaving no one in any doubt that the Ingolstadt boss would still be at the helm on Friday.

Bad boys

Ingolstadt are the "dirtiest" team in the league so far this season, racking up 97 fouls in their first five games, more than any other club. They have also collected 12 yellow cards – only Dresden (14) and Duisburg (13) have more, while the Boys in Brown have nine – plus one red. Lucas Galvao was dismissed for a second bookable offence at Bochum.

Possession game

With 52.2 per cent possession, Stefan Leitl's team sit third in this category behind HSV and Cologne, albeit some way behind (the two relegated sides have registered 58.8 per cent and 57.4 per cent respectively). At home, Ingolstadt are second in terms of possession with 58 per cent, as against 46.3 per cent on their travels. The Boys in Brown are 15th on 47.1 per cent. Possession isn't the key to winning games, however, as demonstrated by the fact that Fürth (46.6 per cent in total) sit second in the league table despite being bottom in terms of possession.

Mutual defensive problems

Friday's game is a meeting of the two most vulnerable defences so far this season. Ingolstadt have now conceded 12 times following the 6-0 defeat at Bochum, while the Boys in Brown have shipped 13 goals in their first five league games, including 12 in the last three.

Long-distance Kerschbaumer

Konstantin Kerschbaumer joined FC Ingolstadt from Arminia Bielefeld in summer and has taken his impressive running form of last season into the current campaign. In the first five games he has clocked up 62.01 kilometres – more than any other player at this level. Kerschbaumer's former Bielefeld teammate Manuel Prietl (61.80 km) and Bochum's Anthony Losilla (61.46 km) follow in second and third place.
