Qualified all clear for Mets but Ahlstrand sidelined by ankle injury

The knee injury suffered by central defender Karol Mets in the game against Hertha BSC is not as bad as first feared. An examination conducted at the ENDO Clinic on Monday revealed that the ligaments are intact. In other news, Erik Ahlstrand has been sidelined by an ankle injury.

Mets hobbled off in the closing stages of Sunday's game after hyperextending his right knee in a challenge. Thankfully, the injury is not a serious one, though it remains to be seen when Mets will be able to play again.

Ahlstrand sustained a ligament injury to his right ankle while playing for the Under-23s at SV Meppen. The 22-year-old Swede had to leave the field with 25 minutes gone after going over on his ankle making a tackle.

"Under the circumstances Karol was fortunate not to suffer a serious injury," said director of sport Andreas Bornemann. "The task now is to see how his knee stands up to the strain on a daily basis to rule out any risk. On Ahlstrand, Bornemann said: "Injuries are never opportune but it's come at a bad time for Erik because he was on the right track and meant to gain match practice with the Under-23s. I wish both Karol and Erik a speedy recovery."
