IRVINE SIDELINED BY ANKLE INJURY

Jackson Irvine sustained a twisted ankle and an ATFL sprain in his right foot while playing for the Socceroos in a friendly against Mexico. Examinations conducted by the FC St. Pauli medical department thus confirmed the findings of the Australian national team doctors.

Irvine underwent further examinations at the Kollau training complex on returning to Hamburg on Wednesday and immediately commenced his rehab. Our captain will therefore be sidelined until further notice.

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Even if our worst fears haven't materialised, it's still a serious injury because the joint as a whole has been heavily impacted. It's now a question of easing Jackson back into the squad as quickly and, above all, sustainably as possible."
