FC St. Pauli dismissed head coach Olaf Janßen with immediate effect on Wednesday. The decision was taken by director of sport Uwe Stöver and the club's managing board in consultation with the supervisory board on Wednesday.
"It's been a very difficult decision for us because Olaf Janßen rendered great service to St. Pauli in his time here and is held in high esteem by everyone at the club for his professional and personal qualities," said club president Oke Göttlich. "However, the results of the last two weeks gradually led to us deciding that we're no longer convinced we can stop the downward trend with Olaf Janßen."
Janßen said: "I've enjoyed my time at FC St. Pauli very much and invested all my strength and energy into the work with the team. The team has steadily progressed since I started here before the winter break last season. Despite the setbacks of the last two games, I would have liked to have continued the journey as head coach myself, but I respect the decision of the club boards. I'm convinced the lads will turn things round and will be keeping my fingers crossed."
Assistant coach Patrick Glöckner has also been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, but assistant coach Markus Gellhaus and goalkeeper coach Mathias Hain remain on the coaching staff.
