LUHUKAY: "YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN LUCK"

The Boys in Brown entertain VfL Bochum on Friday evening in the final game before the third international break this season. In the run-up, head coach Jos Luhukay spoke about...

...our forthcoming opposition: "VfL Bochum bring a lot of quality to the Millerntor even though they're down at the bottom end of the table on 12 points. This team has much more quality than that, though. For me they're capable of challenging at the top, they're a very good side with an extremely good attack. They're among the league's leading scorers. They switch the play very dangerously at pace and are very effective in front of goal. Defensively, they aren't so stable and have shipped a lot of goals. If they can stabilise their defence and remain effective, Bochum can play a completely different role."

…his own team: "The same applies to us to a certain extent. If we can rediscover our attacking qualities tomorrow, then it will come down to how effective we are, and that's what's let us down in the last few weeks. It's the same for our defending: we aren't giving many chances away from open play. In the last three games, we've been unlucky with conceding three goals from set pieces."

…the vulnerability at set pieces: "First and foremost, we shouldn't make too big an issue of it. It's primarily about the way we play football. Otherwise we lose sight of the entire game against Karlsruhe. Our man marking has to be better, but we shouldn't dwell too much on what happened after the 83rd minute. We have to play with more composure and defend more robustly. You can make your own luck."

...James Lawrence: "James resumed full training yesterday but won't be able to play tomorrow. It would be unrealistic because he's been unable to train with the team for so long. We're easing him back in now and he's looked good the last two days. He could be an option at Aue after the international break."

...Matt Penney: "Matt has a muscle problem and won't be in the squad. He could also be an option for the Aue game."

...Philipp Ziereis and Henk Veerman: "Philipp came on after 20 minutes in our last game. He felt it a bit in the days after the game, but that's normal because the exertions in a game are very different to the ones in training. Both Philipp and Henk are options for tomorrow's game."
