FC St. Pauli have bolstered their attacking options with the addition of Mathias Pereira Lage, 28. Pereira Lage arrives from French first division club Stade Brest, who reached the Champions League round of 16 play-offs last term.
Pereira Lage, who has French and Portuguese citizenship, moved from Angers SCO to Brest in 2022. He made a total of 160 Ligue 1 appearances for the two clubs, contributing 16 goals and 17 assists. Added to this are 109 Ligue 2 outings for Clermont Foot (20 goals and nine assists) plus a total of 24 appearances in the French cup competitions (three goals and three assists). Last season, Pereira Lage played nine times for Brest in the Champions League, scoring one goal.
Reaction to the deal
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Mathias has plenty of experience at the highest domestic and European level, and with his ability is exactly the kind of player we were targeting for several attacking positions. He’ll give us even more options thanks to his versatility. We're therefore delighted we were able to convince him to join us on our journey."
Head coach Alexander Blessin: "Dynamism, technical ability, pace – Mathias has everything we want from an attacking player. Add to that an intelligent and team-driven style of play, good set pieces and a willingness to do defensive work and lots of running. As an experienced player, he won't need much time to settle in."
Mathias Pereira Lage: "Having spent all of my career in France so far, I'm now looking forward to a completely new league. St. Pauli are a very interesting club, and during the talks with the officials I gained a very good idea of how I can help the team achieve its targets for next season with my ability. I'm really looking forward to starting pre-season soon."
