Nemeth handed new deal

The personnel planning for next season continues apace. Just days after the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Austrian centre-back David Nemeth, 24, has signed an extension to his contract, which had 12 months left to run, after agreeing terms with director of sport Andreas Bornemann.

Nemeth moved to Hamburg from Mainz 05 in the summer of 2022 and has made 40 competitive appearances for the Boys in Brown, 24 of them in the Bundesliga, contributing one goal and one assist. For Mainz, he played six times in the Bundesliga and once in the DFB Cup. Nemeth spent the majority of the 2020/21 season on loan at Austrian Bundesliga side Sturm Graz, for whom he made a total of 32 competitive appearances (2 goals, 1 assist). He has also made 23 appearances at youth level for Austria, scoring one goal.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "David was held back by a niggling injury and had to settle for the role of challenger for long periods. He always put the success of the team first, however, which is testament to his team spirit and outstanding attitude, so it was all the more pleasing to see him seize the opportunity last season, when he was an important factor in our success with very stable performances."

Head coach Alexander Blessin: "David has made excellent progress this season and established himself as a first-team regular. He can play every position in the back three and gives us additional flexibility with his ability in attacking the ball and in the build-up. When he was waiting for an opportunity in the first team, he used the time to work hard on his game. I'm delighted he'll be staying with us for longer."

David Nemeth: "Hamburg and FC St. Pauli have become home to me over the last few years, although it wasn't always easy for me from a footballing point of view. I'm very happy with the way last season went for me and the team. The club has made excellent progress and I look forward to being a part of things in the years to come."
