HÜRZELER HAILS SECOND-HALF IMPROVEMENT

A perfect start, even if some things weren't perfect. Nevertheless, the Boys in Brown started the second half of the season with a deserved three points at Nürnberg, even though the hosts had more chances, especially in the first half. The mood in the camp after the final whistle was thus one of satisfaction. Here's the pick of the post-match reaction.

Head coach Fabian Hürzeler: "We had a bit luck off the ball today, especially in the first half when Nürnberg did well. They played a lot of balls to their target man Daferner in the box and won the second balls. Nürnberg were very good and had a few shots. Nikola made one outstanding save. When we had the ball we were too passive and lacked courage. Fortunately, we then took the lead but were unable to take the momentum with us. We were fortunate to go in ahead at the break. We changed one or two small things and I thought we were much better and more active. We won more of the second balls, were much braver and found solutions with the ball. We didn't get the second goal, though, because we lacked precision enough in the final third. So we were left biting our nails until the final second. We did our utmost to get a result here in the second half and we're very happy."

Jakov Medić: "We got three points and I scored the winning goal - it couldn't have gone any better. It was important today for me, too. I was injured for over two months and played for the first time today. It's always possible that someone misses out at short notice due to injury or illness. Today I came in for Eric. I knew I had to give a hundred percent and stay focused. I didn't even think about my shoulder any more, my head was clear. I'm glad everything worked out well. We're all happy to have finally won away from home again. We want to win the next away game as well, but we'll focus on the home game against Hannover first."

Marcel Hartel: "We gave our all today. We were determined to see out the 1-0 lead and we did that very, very well. We had the desire today. Nürnberg hit a lot of long balls into the penalty area at the end which we defended very well. They had some good opportunities but didn't finish them off. Eric is a key player and he was missing today; Jakov stepped in and did a great job. We really wanted the win and we're delighted to have taken the three points. We had great support again today. It's nice to be able to send them home with a smile again. We can also go back to Hamburg on the train with a smile. Fabian has made the right tweaks, he gets his message across and gave a really good team talk before the game. We went out and fought and got the win in the end."

Leart Paqarada: "We played well in lots of areas. Nürnberg came at us with a lot of power, especially in the first half. But you have to deal with that away from home. We defended solidly and took the lead. One-nil is OK in the end. It's irrelevant whether we deserved to win or not. We go home with three points. Jakov was out injured for a long time, is thrown in and scores the decisive goal. That's football. I'm happy for him and for us as a team. We hadn't won away in a long time."
