SCHULTZ: "WE GOT THE GOALS AT THE RIGHT MOMENT"

It was tight at the end, but the Boys in Brown secured the first three points of the new season against Nürnberg. After the game, the Boys in Brown looked back with satisfaction at the season opener, even though they know there is still a lot of work to be done.
Head coach Timo Schultz: "After a slightly bumpy pre-season, you always go into a new season with some question marks. We have a good foundation on which to build in the squad. But we knew that already. We had eight players from last season in the starting lineup, so I knew what my team was capable of. The lads played really well, they played their way out of pressure and created chances. We can’t read too much into the performance, it could have gone the other way. We saw lots of things from last season, though, and some things we’ve working on in pre-season. But I also saw things we have to do better."
Leart Paqarada: "It’s great to start with a win. We dominated the first half, and I was positively surprised by how well things worked on the opening day. We got ourselves into trouble by conceding unnecessarily. All in all, though, it was a dominant performance and a deserved win."
Johannes Eggestein: "It was important to start the season with a win. We did that and so we’re all very happy, though it was just the first step. We need to do even better and be more solid – as we saw towards the end of the game. I had a few situations and attempts on goal where one might have gone in with a bit of luck. There’s room for improvement there, but that will come over the course of the season with more match practice. I’m pleased with my performance but want to improve over the next few games."
Robert Klaus (Nürnberg coach): "We’re obviously disappointed, we wanted to win the opening game not lose it, that’s for sure. We had some problems adjusting in the first ten minutes, where we had to take the dynamism out of the game and survive the onslaught, but we did that. After the penalty we had a phase where we lost our heads and couldn’t escape the vortex. Three-nil is hard to come back from at St. Pauli. In the second half we set out to pull a goal back, which we did relatively quickly. Then we made it 3-2, but it came too late unfortunately, so we ended up losing. It hurts and is annoying because I think we could have come away with more here."
