KNOLL: "WE WERE PUNISHED FOR ONE MISTAKE"

There was huge disappointment in the St. Pauli camp after the unfortunate 1-0 defeat at Regensburg. Here's what director of sport Andreas Bornemann, Waldemar Sobota, Marvin Knoll and Henk Veerman had to say about the game.

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Defeats are always hard to take, but this was especially hard. We had everything under control and gave nothing away, and then we conceded a slapstick goal. We had several chances to take the lead. That would have been a huge help. As it was, we were left chasing the game, which played into Regensburg's hands. Ziere's first booking was questionable, and though he went flying into the second challenge, he did play the ball. That wasn't decisive, though, because we had lots of chances and didn't take them and then gifted our opponents a goal. Apart from that, I can't fault the players. We have to pull together. Getting out of this situation is going to be tough."

Waldemar Sobota: "We had high ambitions, of course, and created some chances early on. Our play was better than it has been. The goal came from a misunderstanding. We've conceded a lot of goals like that recently. That won't get us anywhere. We have two games left before Christmas. We need to get the maximum from them."

Marvin Knoll: "Irrespective of the result, you have to say our plan was good. The tactics were good. We were solid at the back, switched the play well and had three clear-cut opportunities. One of them has to go in. Then we conceded from a long ball forward. We were really fired up after the interval and had a huge chance though Mats. It just wasn't to be. We kept pushing forward even after the sending-off. At the end of the day, we made one mistake and were punished for it, and up front we simply aren't resolute enough. I don't know whether the sending-off was justified or not. It's men's football and you get stuck in sometimes. Zier went in and played the ball. It was very unlucky. I'm not blaming the referee, though, we had 90 minutes to turn it round."

Henk Veerman: "We felt good in the first half. We had several clear-cut chances but didn't score. We didn't let our heads drop. It's just that if you don't score, it's hard to win a game. With that in mind, it isn't good enough. It would have been a different game, if I'd got a goal."
