HARTEL: "IT'S GOOD TO WIN DIRTY FOR A CHANGE"

The 3-2 win at Jahn Regensburg was not for the faint-hearted, no question about that. After the game, the Boys in Brown were obviously delighted to have ended a run of five league games without a win.

Head coach Timo Schultz: "It was a game of two halves. In the first, we won the ball on numerous occasions and launched lots of counterattacks. We were well worth our two-goal lead. If I'm going to complain about anything it's that we didn't score more. As is often the case, Regensburg developed a head of steam in the second half and when they're able to leave their mark on the game with lots of long balls, they're extremely awkward opponents for any team at this level. They had us pinned back and created a string of chances. In that phase we were unable to make good use of our chances on the break, with the exception of the third goal. That was outstanding. We were left biting our nails towards the end and are glad to have seen the game out. It couldn't have gone on much longer."

Guido Burgstaller: "We started well and played some really good football and had lots of good chances on the break, especially in the first half. We didn't make the best use of them all, however, and I should have scored another or maybe two. We have to take our chances, though, it could and perhaps should have been four or five. I was a bit unlucky perhaps with one or two efforts and Meyer produced an outstanding save to keep out the last one. We let Regensburg back into the game too easily and the last few minutes were quite nerve-wracking. It would have been our own fault if we'd given it away then. It was important to get three points after our recent winless run. It's a good feeling. Winning at Regensburg isn't easy."

Marcel Hartel: "It was a very nervy affair, especially the last few minutes. We're all glad to be going home with three points. This play and go, this casualness and the street football approach on the pitch is something we did really well in the first half of the season. We've not shown it so much since the winter break. Today we were superb in the first half and parts of the second. It's good to win dirty for a change, especially after going five games without one. It's good for our confidence. We're all knackered and will enjoy the rest of the evening now. We'll need to recover well after this game."

Etienne Amenyido: "It was a step in the right direction. We knew it wouldn't be easy, with lots of long balls and aerial battles. We gave as good as we got. We want to get more wins now and we'll keep working for them."

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh: "It was a hard-fought win. We did it together. We feel good, the mood is good, and we know what we're capable of. We work hard for it every day and will keep giving it our best shot."

Mersad Selimbegović (Regensburg head coach): "As daft as it sounds, we didn't start all that badly. They scored with their first two chances. The first half was a bit like a boxer on the ropes trying to avoid the final blow. With a lot of luck we just about managed to go in at the break only two goals down. We made some changes and switched things round and made a better start. We were knocking on the door and had a really good chance to equalise just before they made it 3-1. We were a bit too naïve there and let them launch a counterattack over more than 80 metres. The way we responded was outstanding, though. We kept going, pulled a goal back and came close to finding an equaliser. We have to keep playing the way we did in the second half. All things considered, though, you aren't going to get your reward if you play like we did in the first half. All in all St. Pauli deserved to win."
