LUHUKAY HAILS RESOLVE

The Boys in Brown delivered a decent performance in the final home game of the season against Jahn Regensburg, but it wasn't enough to claim all three points. It was enough to banish any remaining relegation fears, however. Here's our summary of the post-match reaction.

Head coach Jos Luhukay: "I'm delighted with the impression my very young team made today and the way we played. We showed our true face and what we can do. We were outstanding in the first half and it was great to watch. We moved the ball around well, created an overload in midfield and combined nicely into the final third. The goal was the result of our collective pressing. Regensburg only had one chance in the first half and unfortunately it went in. In the second half we showed character and mentality to claim a deserved and vital point and secure our second-division status. That we did it under our own steam is only natural. I never had any doubt, even after the Hannover game. Compared with Wednesday, we again showed a different side to ourselves at the Millerntor. I'm really pleased about that, considering the changes we made and the young players who came in and withstood the pressure and kept their cool. Huge compliments to my team today. They gave their all with and for each other and showed unity and togetherness. Today it was evident the team isn't against the coach and the coach isn't against the team."

Waldemar Sobota: "The point was important but as I said to the lads before the game, we had to focus on our game to make sure we play well. That was the most important thing today because whenever we've played well this season, we've picked up points. We've had our problems away from home, but we've been solid at home. We fell apart at Hannover but remained compact today and deserved to take the point."

Sebastian Ohlsson: "It was very hot, which is why the pace of the game wasn't so high. We were the better team overall today, and not just because we had more chances than Regensburg."

Luca Zander: "We started well, played some good football and deserved to go in front. After the restart, we didn't pressure the ball as much and defended a bit deeper. In view of the weather and the busy schedule, it wasn't possible to maintain the tempo and our pressing game for 90 minutes. It was important we defended the goal because we wanted to keep things in our own hands. We're happy we got a result and will definitely stay up."

Regensburg coach Mersad Selimbegovic: "We made a poor start. We gave the ball away too many times, didn't win the second balls and didn't win the tackles. We simply weren't there. If you don't get the basics right at this level and in this league, you can't expect much. Going behind was the logical consequence. We could be thankful it was only 1-0. Our equaliser came more or less out of the blue. We raised a few things during the break, and it was much better after that. You could tell it's been a long season for both teams, and the weather was also a factor today. Both teams were tired and reluctant to take too many risks. I'm satisfied with the point even though we could have got more on account of the second half, when we were more agile."
