SCHOPPENHAUER JOINS ST. PAULI ON TWO-YEAR DEAL

St. Pauli have signed a new central defender. Clemens Schoppenhauer, 25, moves to the Millerntor from Kickers Würzburg on a two-year deal that ties him to the club until 30 June 2019.

"We're delighted to have signed a centre-back in Clemens who meets our requirements profile in every respect," said director of sport Andreas Rettig. "In the talks it quickly became clear that Clemens will fit in the squad very well, not only in footballing terms but also character-wise."

Schoppenhauer sees the move to the Millerntor as the next step in his career: "The move is a big thing for me. St. Pauli have great fans and are a club with a huge tradition who are well known in Germany and across the world. I'm joining an established club with professional structures and I want to continue improving here and establish myself in the second division and at the club."

Schoppenhauer learned his trade as a youngster at Werder Bremen and played for the club's Under-23s. He then made the switch to Würzburg, where he was a member of two promotion-winning sides. Last season he made 31 appearances for the club and scored one goal. In a three-year spell he made 104 appearances in various divisions for the Kickers, scoring three goals.
