SCHULTZ AHEAD OF REGENSBURG: "WE'LL HAVE TO GIVE IT ALL WE'VE GOT TO TAKE THE POINTS"

The Boys in Brown go into Sunday's home game against league leaders Jahn Regensburg (13:30 CET) looking to get back on track after last week's 3-1 reverse at Paderborn, their first defeat of the 2021/22 season. In the run-up, head coach Timo Schultz attended the customary pre-match media conference…

...replacing the suspended Philipp Ziereis: "The option is staring us in the face in James Lawrence. He might not be completely back to 100% after his injury layoff, but with his experience and the way he plays, we'll have excellent cover."

...filling the right-back position: "This is a question I'll have to answer over the next couple of days. We have enough options and will find a good solution, even though not everyone is fully fit or would be playing in their specialist position. We'll talk to the lads and will have to decide who provides the best fit for Regensburg and offers us the most with the way he plays football. It's strange, for sure, because this is the position in the squad where we have the best cover and yet we're still short, though we will have enough alternatives again after the international break at the latest."

...the bad start to the game at Paderborn: "It wasn't like us not to start well. Normally, we're quick to be active and dictate the early action. At Paderborn there were two or three key moments when the early action went against us right away. That can happen, but we'd have some thinking to do if that were to become the rule. When you have a situation like the one that led to the red card against us, that really is the worst-case scenario."

...SSV Jahn Regensburg: "All you need to do is look at the table really. They've made an excellent start to the season and looked impressive. Regensburg are a homogeneous, strong-running and strong-tackling side. You can clearly see the influence of the coach. They play a very direct brand of football and are extremely compact. We had two high-intensity games against Regensburg last season. We won here at the Millerntor but had no joy at Regensburg. We know it's going to be a high-intensity game, but those are the games we like, so it's all good. We'll have to give it all we've got to take the points."

...Regensburg's Benedikt Gimber and Max Besuschkow: " In those two they have two very good defensive midfielders who've developed into top players. They know their way around the second division and are the league's best in lots of areas. They really are a bulwark to be overcome. Another thing that speaks for them is the fact that Regensburg have only conceded one goal. They're outstanding in their pressing of the ball and the same goes for the passes they play into the final third. On top of that, they've also scored the odd goal or two as well."

...the approach: "We always focus on ourselves and seek to impose our brand of football on the game, especially at home. We know we're a good team when we play football, when we're brave and when we get the ball forward full of belief. We always give our best performances when we do that and are capable of beating teams like Regensburg then. We'll have to be extremely careful when they win the ball because they look to get forward straightaway. We'll need decent cover then. That and the set pieces for and against us that might make the difference between winning and losing will be the two main factors."
