The draw for the second round of the DFB Cup was made at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Sunday evening. Former Germany international Shkodran Mustafi handed the Boys in Brown a home tie against FC Schalke 04.
The second round takes place on Tuesday, 31 October and Wednesday, 1 November, with the exact date and kick-off-time to be announced by the German Football Association (DFB) next week. The Boys in Brown won 5-0 at fifth-tier Atlas Delmenhorst in Round 1, while the Royal Blues progressed with a 3-1 victory at Eintracht Braunschweig.
Schalke only recently visited the Millerntor, losing 3-1 in late September.
Reaction to the draw
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: “We’re delighted to have a home tie in front of what is sure to be another sell-out crowd at the Millerntor. The cup is a highly interesting competition and is of great importance to us.”
Head coach Fabian Hürzeler: “Schalke 04 are a strong team, and we’ll prepare intensively. Schalke are sure to be especially motivated after our recent 3-1 win, but we want to come out on top and go through the Round of 16.”
