BOYS IN BROWN AWAY TO SV STRAELEN IN FIRST ROUND OF CUP

FC St. Pauli were handed a trip to fourth-tier outfit SV Straelen when the draw for the first round of the DFB Cup was made on Sunday evening. The first-round ties are scheduled to take place from Friday, 29 July, to Monday, 1 August, with the precise kick-off times to be announced by the German Football Association (DFB) in due course.
In the season just ended, SV Straelen finished 15th in the fourth-tier Regionalliga West, killing off any threat of relegation on the penultimate day. In the Lower Rhine Cup they embarked on a remarkable run, eliminating third-division side MSV Duisburg in the semi-final and then beating league rivals Wuppertaler SV in the final. The municipality of Straelen is located in the Lower Rhine region of Germany near Venlo and the border with the Netherlands.
"We’re looking forward to another DFB Cup campaign and the tie against SV Straelen. In the regional division they had to fight off relegation, but in the state cup competition they won the final against league rivals Wuppertaler SV, who finished the season in third place. Nevertheless, our aspiration is to progress to the next round,” said director of sport Andreas Bornemann after the draw.
